Lilly smiled, “Well, David, you’re only here temporarily, I’m sure you can’t do too much damage.”

“You’ve only known me for a few minutes, ma’am.”

Sam threw his arm around David’s shoulder, “I like you already.”

***

“So, Bonnet, where exactly do you come from?” Sam asked, throwing him a staff.

David caught the wooden pole, “France, isn’t it obvious by the name?”

“The way you say your first name isn’t French and you don’t have the funny accent.”

    “I’m grateful for that.”

“The one to hit the mat first looses. Go.” Sam swung his staff, barely missing the corporal, “You still didn’t answer my question, where do you come from?”

“New York.” he said as he dodged another attack, “Does that answer your question, sir?”

Sam smiled at the sarcasm in his voice, “Careful, corporal, I could have you court-martialed.”

“But we both know you won’t.” David said just before he launched his own attack.

The staves were everywhere, sometimes not in either of their hands. It was intense, there was no time for talking. At one point, Sam had both of the staves. Just moments later, David had them both. It continued for a while with one having the upper hand then losing it. Ultimately, Sam ended up hitting the mat.

“I guess you win.” Sam said still lying flat.

David could already tell by how Sam acted that it was very uncharacteristic of him to still be on the floor. He has something left. David thought, He wants me to help him up. I’ll give you this one, Sam, just this one.

He sighed and started to walk over to Sam with his handoutstretched, “I guess so.”

Sam took his hand, but didn’t stand up. He kicked David’s feet out from under him, using the momentum to throw him across the mat. The corporal hit the mat hard. He coughed thensat up. He wiped his hand across his face and got to his feet.

“Well, that answers that question.” David smiled and turned, “Brits are cheats.”

“I’d be a cheat if I didn’t already admit that you won.” Sam picked up the disregarded staves and put them away, “I usually spar with Lilly, but I would never do anything like that with her.”

“What’s the story between the two of you?”

    “I’m just her Second.”

    “The Second that she kisses.”

“You saw-” David could see that Sam was mentally yelling at himself, You’re more observant than I thought.”

“Isn’t dating your CO against the rules?”

“When they weren’t even in the RAF before you started dating, no.”

“Wouldn’t they make you break it off?”

“They tried. It didn’t work out too well. They came to a compromise that Lilly would agree to: We don’t let our emotions get in the way of work, we’re just fine.”

    “That’s quite an unusual arrangement.”

    “Yep.”

“So, if you’ve been dating since before she enlisted, how long have you been going out if she’s now a flight lieutenant?”

“Since she was fifteen… That would be, what, three years?”

    “She’s eighteen?”

    “Yeah. Why?”

“It’s just that she’s younger than you.”

    “And?”

“Nothing. It’s just a little odd.”

“Lilly’s a good CO, and her father is an air marshal.”

    “Ah. Now I understand.”

“It doesn’t mean she didn’t earn the rank, she just earned it faster than most.”

“I wasn’t trying to question anything, Sam.”

“Sam? Where do you get off calling me Sam?”

“I could call you Samuel, if you would prefer.”

“I was more referring to your calling me by my first name.”

“Well, I am older than you.”

“Oh, so that gives you the right to call me whatever you want?”

    “Yes.” David smiled.

Sam rolled his eyes, “In that case, David, let’s get to the mess hall before it closes.”

Sam and Lilly

1 min read
Hi everyone! I have been sick lately, so I haven't done any schoolwork... Oh well... But I have been working on a bunch of things HH:AS related. My sister recently brought into question Sam's feelings after losing Lilly, and I found a song that (sort of) fits them perfectly. That's all I really have to share.
Song Here:
♫ Easy - Rascal Flatts & Natasha Bedingfield ♫
(If you don't want to listen for Sam and Lilly, listen just for the song, it's a good one.)

Family Feud...

2 min read
After roll call, I was put on the chair in the radio room. Oh boy, was I in for it, "Why did you leave?!" Colonel Hogan yelled, he didn't even give me a chance to answer, "Do you know how stupid that was?!" he continued, "If it weren't for your little stunt with Klink, we could send you back. But now, if we do, we risk our entire operation!"
"Enough!" I stood up, "I may just be an eighteen year old girl to you, but you are not my father. Stop acting like it. You may be a colonel, but I'm a civilian, you have no power over me!"
"While you're here you are a private. You came here as a private, and you will be treated like one. I have the highest rank in camp, you have the lowest. As far as I'm concerned, I am your commanding officer."
"I do not take orders from you."
"You do now."
The rest of the Heroes were standing there, unsure of what to do. LeBeau then jumped up and grabbed me before anything else could happen. Colonel Hogan growled, even though he knew it was for the best. He took off his cap and ran his hand through his black hair, "What are we going to do?" he asked, mostly to himself.
"The Gestapo doesn't know she's here yet." Baker said, he was always looking at the positive side of things.
"They will. Didn't you hear Burkhalter?"
"We could intercept his call." Kinch suggested.
"And when the Gestapo doesn't show?" Hogan asked, "What do we do then?"
"We could put Carter in a uniform." Newkirk said, putting his hand on Carter's shoulder.
"Why is it always me?" Carter asked upset, "Why do I always have to be Gestapo or a Luftwaffe officer?"
"You do look the part." Colonel Hogan observed, still lost in his thoughts, "Nah, that won't work."
Everyone looked over to Tanner, who was the only one yet to speak, "Don't look at me, I'm only a private."
Hogan sighed, "Who knew one girl could cause so much trouble?"

I had no idea how much time I had spent in the infirmary taking care of Bryan. I really just wanted to go to bed, but I figured I should go back to the dance. The doors were open when I arrived. The winter formal was over. I sighed and walked over to the nearest table. I sat in one of the chairs; put my elbow on the table, and my head in my hand.
"I thought you said you didn't care about the dance."
     I snapped my head up, "I don't."
     "Yeah, of course you don't."
"Do you follow me everywhere, Sam?"
     "Anywhere I'm allowed." he smiled.
I sighed and stood up, "I should probably get to bed now."
"Why would you do that?" Sam asked as he held out his hand, "Please Lilly…Can I have this dance?"
     "There's no music."
     "I can start some."
"Uh," I sat back down in the chair, "Based on yesterday's events… no thank you."
He now had both of his hands on the back of my chair, "It's now or never."
I crossed my arms, and started thinking, until my words didn't agree with my thoughts, "Then never."
     "You don't mean that."
     "Yes I do."
     "Stand up, Lilly."
"Sam, I… am going to bed."
He took my hand, "One dance?"
     "My, you're persistent."
     "I know."
"Fine. But as I said before, there's no music."
"They never took out the record player."
"Wonderful…" I said under my breath.
Sam turned on the record player. I rolled my eyes and walked over to him. I took a step back with my right foot. I took a step to the side with my left foot, but I tripped.
     "You've forgotten my lesson already?"
"It kind of got wiped from my mind, because of the event that followed."
"Fine then, no Waltz," Sam stated, "Put your other hand on my other shoulder."
"Why? I assume you're going to put your other hand on my waist?"
     "Yes."
I rolled my eyes, "This doesn't really go with the music."
"I know, but it'll have to do."
"Or we can stop while we're ahead, and no one gets hurt."
"I won't do anything, if you promise not to slap me."
The music continued to play as we continued to dance. A million things raced through my mind.  I couldn't believe I was actually dancing with him, again.  All of the sudden, Sam started to look different to me. He wasn't just a geeky kid who followed me everywhere, anymore. Sam noticed that I wasn't quite there.
"Are you okay?" he asked quietly.
"Yes." I whispered, as the song finally came to an end.
We stood there, not realizing that the music had ceased to play. I knew I probably shouldn't, but I did anyway. I kissed him. He was startled, but he wasn't going to fight it.

The First Dance

6 min read
"Sam, I don't want to be a burden…  But I need your help." I said as I entered the common room.
"It's no burden.  What you need help with?" Sam said looking up from his book.
"I…  I need you to teach me how to dance." I said sheepishly.
"You don't know how to dance?"
     "No…"
"What makes you think I know how to dance?"
"Based on last year's winter formal, I'd say you do know how to dance."
     "You saw that, huh?"
     "Everybody saw that."
"You have nothing on me then."
     "Please Sam… Please!"
"Why don't you have Rodney teach you?"
"Because…  And besides, everyone else has left." I said looking around the empty room, "It makes absolutely no sense why there's a dance on Christmas Eve when everyone has gone home."
     "I can't say you're the only one.  But that's how it's been since 1905."
"So, is that a yes or a no?"
     "On one condition…"
     "A small condition?"
"That depends on how you look at it."
"Samuel Martin Stuart!" I yelled as I grabbed a hold on his tie, "Don't you play games with me!" Even though I could strangle him at any moment, he smiled and started laughing.
     "You wouldn't dare." he smirked.
I slammed him into the wall, "Try me."
     "Fine then, I will."
"You know how to push my buttons, Sam."
"I can't say the same for you."
"You don't make me angry!" I pulled him by the tie away from the wall and pushed him back into it, hard, "Because the only way I know how to blow off steam, is what I'm doing right now. And this is about ten percent of it."
"Alright. Alright." Sam said with a glimpse of pain marked across his face, "That's enough."
"I don't think it is." I said smacking him into the wall again.
"Lilly! Get back into your head. I was just kidding."
"Well I just happen to take things personally." I said in a much softer voice, "And you're the only person who has ever tried to insult me."
"I'm not insulting you. I'm just trying to have fun."
I threw him into the wall again, "That fun is at my expense!"
"Lilly, honey, will you just calm down?"
"Did you just call me 'Honey'?"
     "Um… No…"
"I could strangle you now, and my pain would be gone. I could escape this prison you call a school, and be a real help in the war effort."
"You don't want to do that."
     "Why should I not?"
"Forgive me for this Lilly." Sam said.
Before I even knew what was going on, he grabbed the hand I had on his tie, twisted it, put it behind my back, took my free hand and put it right on top of the other. I appeared to be in handcuffs. Although, with Sam's hands opposite mine, his arms made an "X" on my torso. He then rested his head on my shoulder.
     "Shall we try this again?"
"Whatever you say." I said irritably.
He released his grip on my hands.  I started rubbing my wrists while he pushed back the couch in front of the fireplace.
"Come here." Sam said holding out his hand, "I'll give in."
"Why should I trust you now?"
"Because you know you want to."
     "Don't even start Stewart."
     "Oh, someone's touchy."
"Would you rather I scream your full name?"
"I get your point." he said putting his other hand on my waist, "Are you sure you want me to teach you how to dance?"
     "Do I have another choice?"
     "Good point."
"So are you going to teach me or just hold my waist for a while?"
"Well, what dance do you want to learn?"
     "The Waltz." I said smiling.
"Oh my, I'm in for it."
     "Watch it."
"Okay, so take a step back with your right foot. Take a step to the side with your left." Sam said eying my feet closely, "Now take your right foot and bring it towards your left." In doing this I tripped over my own feet and then Sam started laughing, "You are going to have to be more careful if you don't want to kill yourself."
     "Sam…"
He continued teaching me the basic steps, "Let's run through this again, full speed."
"Are you sure about this?  I'm going to kill you. Or at least seriously injure you."
     "You won't be that lucky."
We ran through the entire dance three or four times before I started to get it down. After the sixth time through, we just stopped. We both stood there for a moment.
When something moved was when Sam spoke, "So are you excited to dance with Rodney tomorrow?"
"No. Well, yes. Well… I don't know." I said and immediately tried to get the focus off of me, "Who are you taking?"
     "I'm afraid, no one…"
"Well why didn't you ask someone? I'm sure every girl in the school would have said yes."
     "Including you?" Sam asked.
I started blushing and looked down at the ground. When I looked back up, I saw Sam was red in the face as well. His expression changed. The look of worry and embarrassment dissolved, in its place an expression of deep emotion. I felt really awkward, I had never seen Sam emotional before. Slightly nervous, I decided to break the silence, but before I could Sam adjusted the hand he had on my waist to higher on my back. And then, he pulled me towards him, and kissed me.
It took me a minute to react because I was stunned, but in reality it was a considerably shorter amount of time. I immediately tried to pull myself away from him. Sam moved the arm he had on my back, and I stumbled backwards. Breathing heavily, my eyes were fixed on him. While my gaze was full of fury, my mind was full of confusion. I could tell Sam wasn't straight on with the facts either. If I had thought our situation a few minutes ago was awkward, I was wrong.
